Getting your village attacked mid-build is one of the most frustrating experiences in Coin Master. You saved up coins to build, and another player tears it down in seconds. Here's every method to protect your progress — ranked from most to least effective.

1. Use Shields (Most Important)

Shields are your primary defence. You can hold up to 3 shields at a time, and each one absorbs one incoming attack. When all three are active, an attacker's hammer hits a shield instead of your buildings.

Shields are earned from the slot machine (the shield symbol) and sometimes from events or daily links. For a full breakdown of how they stack and when they expire, see our Shields Explained guide.

2. Activate the Rhino Pet

Rhino is the defensive pet — it has a chance to block each incoming attack while active. At higher levels, Rhino's block chance increases significantly. Activate Rhino whenever you're about to go offline for an extended period or whenever your shields run low.

Rhino doesn't replace shields, but combined with 3 active shields, you're extremely well protected against attack streaks.

3. Spend Coins Quickly — Don't Hoard

The more coins sitting in your stash, the bigger the target you are. Players who attack you steal a percentage of your current coin balance. If you're holding 50 million coins and get hit, that's a massive loss.

Build as fast as possible. The moment you have enough coins for a building, buy it. Don't accumulate coins beyond what you immediately need. Coins in buildings are safe; coins in your wallet are not.

4. Time Your Big Spending Sessions

If you're about to do a major building push after spinning through your stockpile, do it in one sitting. Spin to generate coins, then immediately build with all of them before logging off. Leaving large coin balances overnight while offline is asking to get raided.

5. Stay Aware of Your Attack Target Pool

Coin Master selects attack and raid targets from your Facebook friends list. Players with friends who are active attackers will get hit more often. This isn't something you can fully control, but it's worth knowing.

6. Complete Villages Quickly to Reduce Exposure

Each village tier has a fixed build cost. The longer you're mid-village, the longer you're exposed to attacks. Use the Village Costs guide to plan exactly how many coins you need for each build, then accumulate that exact amount and spend it all at once.

7. Upgrade Rhino First

Among the three pets, Rhino gives the best defence ROI. Feeding Rhino to increase his level should be a priority if you're consistently losing coins to attacks. Each level meaningfully increases the block chance percentage.

What Doesn't Work

  • Disconnecting from Facebook — some guides suggest this removes you from the attack pool, but it also removes your ability to receive free spin gifts from friends, which costs you far more than you save
  • Staying at low village levels — low-level villages have low coin requirements, so there's less to steal, but this strategy also keeps your progression very slow
  • Playing at off-peak hours — attacks come from friends' spins, not from players actively choosing you in real time; timing doesn't reduce this

Frequently Asked Questions

How many shields can I have at once?

Up to 3 shields can be stacked. A 4th shield symbol from the slot machine while at 3 shields is converted into coins instead.

Does Rhino block 100% of attacks at max level?

No. Even at max level, Rhino blocks a high percentage of attacks but not all of them. Use Rhino alongside shields for best results, not as a replacement.

Can I attack back the person who attacked me?

Not directly — you need the slot machine to randomly select them as your target. However, you can see who attacked you in the feed and (if they appear as your target) retaliate.

What happens to buildings that get attacked?

Attacked buildings are damaged and must be repaired with coins. The repair cost is typically a fraction of the original build cost. Shields prevent the damage entirely.
