Shields are your village's only defence against attacks from other players. Without them, every successful attack destroys one of your buildings and forces you to spend coins to repair it. Here's everything you need to know.
What Do Shields Do in Coin Master?
A shield absorbs one attack hit, protecting a single building in your village from being destroyed. Each shield used up disappears, so you need a constant supply to stay protected.
How Many Shields Can You Have at Once?
You can hold a maximum of 3 shields at any one time. Landing a fourth shield symbol while already at 3 converts that shield into coins instead.
How Do You Get Shields?
The only way to earn shields through normal gameplay is by landing the shield symbol on the slot machine. You cannot buy shields directly or receive them from friends. Some events reward shields as prizes.
Do Shields Carry Over Between Villages?
Yes. Unused shields stay active when you advance to a new village. There's no need to use them up before upgrading.
What Happens If You Have No Shields?
If another player lands three hammers and targets you with no shields active, one of your village buildings is destroyed and must be repaired using coins. The more advanced your village, the more expensive repairs become.
Does Rhino Replace Shields?
Rhino (the pet) adds a chance to block an incoming attack even without a shield — but it's a probability, not a guarantee. Shields are still the most reliable protection. Rhino works best as a backup when your shields run out.
Should You Prioritise Getting Shields?
It depends on your village progress. Early villages are cheap to repair, so losing a shield slot to a fourth shield (which converts to coins) is no great loss. In later, expensive villages, keeping 3 shields active at all times is worth it to avoid repair costs.
Can You Attack Through Someone's Shield?
No — a shield always absorbs one hit. If a player has 3 shields, you would need to land three successful attack spins to break all their shields before destroying a building. Each hit consumes one of their shields.
